A two-day intensive for Beginning Corset-Making

Experienced sewists will make a waist-cincher/underbust corset at L.A.'s premier costume and corset supply retailer, Richard the Thread. Instruction will include bespoke pattern and fitting alterations, including a mock-up, fashion fabric construction, boning and busk placement, hand-applied grommets, and more. Led by Simone Williams, a custom corsetry couturier with 25 years of experience making beautiful designs at her atelier, Exquisite Restraint Corsets (www.exquisiterestraint.com). Emphasis will be placed on craftsmanship and applying corset-making techniques in other aspects of fashion and costume construction.

 

Mandatory Kit Fee paid at sign-up. Kit is priced for a beige corset. Students will have the option to upgrade to white, black, or floral brocade from Richard the Thread on the day. Students should bring 1 yard of lining fabric of their choice.

List of student-supplied required tools and supplies will be sent upon purchase.

This is an intermediate-level intensive. Students should be familiar with basic sewing techniques and the operation of their machines.

Meet the Instructor
Simone C. Williams is the owner and designer of Exquisite Restraint Corsets in Los Angeles, marking 25 years of corsetry excellence. She is excited to lead this corset-making workshop for the Costumers Guild West members and friends, and share her experience and knowledge with other corset lovers. She received her MFA in Costume Design from the University of Texas in Austin and has led a dual life, making corsets while working in film, television, and theatre in Los Angeles.
