Diane in her Green Suit

Many of you may know me, Diane Yoshitomi, a longtime member of CGW and a teacher at Costume College.  I am writing to you as I face a dilemma: my husband and I will soon be moving from our large house to a small 3-room unit in a senior living facility — and I simply cannot take my entire costume collection and various stashes with me!  You can help me solve that dilemma by participating in a one-day-only sale at my by-then vacant house, a sale which will benefit not only you and me but also CGW, as I will contribute a generous portion of total sales revenue to our Scholarship Fund.

I am offering only quality items — whether brand new, gently used, or genuinely antique — and they are Priced To Go, ranging from $ to $$$!  (Prices are fixed and not subject to negotiation.)  Here is a preliminary list of what you can expect to find:

  • 30+ fabric cuts of 3-10 yards x 45/55/60 inches wide
  • Many sets (4, 12, 24, 32, etc.) of vintage & antique buttons
  • Many lengths/types of vintage/antique lace: black, white, ecru, Irish crochet
  • 60+ patterns 1800-1950: dresses, undies, hats, handbags, miscellaneous accessories (some used but with all sizes intact)
  • 18 hats/bonnets/caps: vintage, purchased (Mela), made by me, most with an accompanying hatbox, plus 3 metal hat stands
  • 4 tiaras: gold/silver, pearls/diamonds, 1 silver & pearl “fairy crown.”
  • 10 outer garments/evening wraps, both vintage & made by me (including hangers): various shawls, 1 spencer, 1 Persian lamb jacket/1940s or ‘50s
  • Finished garments with hangers:
    • 2 hoop skirts, 1 train-supporting bustle,
    • Victorian & Edwardian chemise/drawers, 5 petticoats
    • 10 dresses 1810s-1920s, 1 bathing costume, 2 1920s satin & lace slips
    • 2 commercially made 1920s flapper evening dresses w/sequins/beads/fringe, plus 2 Diane-made underdresses
  • 15 vintage/antique fans in good-to-excellent & usable condition
  • 10 antique parasol frames to be re-covered, 2 with canopies in still usable but delicate condition, 1 modern white Battenburg lace
  • 3 Regency-style mega muffs (white, black, brown) plus 1 unused length of white fur with black “ermine tips” for a future project
  • 10 saris in slightly-used/good condition: cotton, silk, georgette
  • 90+ books on the history of fashion & how to recreate
  • 10 bound annual volumes of Peterson’s Magazine, ranging from 1855-1886 (including color fashion plates)
  • 5 Dancing Through Time DVD instructionals (mid-19th century to Ragtime) and 2 accompanying music CDs
